Basic knowledge of CBN grinding wheel grinding:
Grinding wheels are very effective in conventional multi-pass grinding for most tool and cutter grinding operations.Recommended wheel speeds during dry grinding are in the range of 3000 to 4500 SFPM (15 to 23 m/s). Higher wheel speeds may cause the edge of the tool to burn.
In wet grinding, wheel speeds in the range of 5000 to 6500 SFPM (25 to 33 m/s) provide excellent results.
Generally speaking, the higher the speed, the better the wheel life and metal removal rate.
Due to the cool, free-cutting nature of the CBN wheel, the infeed rate should be kept constant.
Use creep-feed, single-pass grinding patterns whenever possible. Use lower feed rates when dry grinding. Rough depth of cut should be approximately 0.002 inches (0.05 mm), while finishing depths of cut are typically 0.005 to 0.001 inches (0.01 to 0.02 mm).
Grinding passes are not required when using CBN wheels, as whatever is set for depth of cut will be removed from the tool being ground if the grinder is in good condition.
Advantages:
CBN grinding wheel plays a very important role in the grinding of chain saws for grinding chain saw blades. It has natural advantages:
1. Very long tool life.
2. The grinding wheel will not be deformed during use, and even the saw teeth will be very sharp.
3. Almost no dust will be generated during the grinding process.
Applicable equipment:
Oregon, Stihl, Tecomec, Timbertuff, Jolly, Maxx, Franzen, Foley, Northern, Maxx, SIlvey, Franzen and others.
How to choose which grinding wheel: diamond or CBN?
If you are grinding steel chain - CBN grinding wheels are the right choice.
If you are grinding carbide chains - you should opt for diamond wheels. Keep in mind that you cannot use CBN wheels on carbide chains. Never use diamond wheels on steel chains.
